Sunday, June 5 –Rockbridge County High School junior Danielle Crawford earned all-state honors by placing in the top eight in both of her throwing events at the Class 3 state track and field meet on Sunday at Harrisonburg High School.

Crawford placed third in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet, 6 inches, breaking her own school record of 38-5, which she had set in her third-place finish at the state indoor track and field meet last year. Crawford also placed third at this year’s state indoor meet.

In the discus, Crawford’s throw went 92-4. Both finishes were improvements in placing from last year’s outdoor state meet, when Crawford was competing with an injured foot and placed 12th in the shot put and 13th in the discus.

Also competing for the Wildcats, in his first state meet, was junior Johnny Dunn, who placed 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5-10, two inches shy of his personal record.

The meet was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday but was postponed until Sunday due to rain and thunderstorms. Crawford had just finished warming up to throw the shot put on Saturday morning when the meet was stopped after the sound of thunder.
