Thursday, Sept. 21 – The Parry McCluer High School golf team finished second of four teams in the Pioneer District tournament on Thursday at The Vista Links in Buena Vista.

The Blues, playing the entire 18-hole course for the first time this season, tallied a 406, trailing Covington’s 393. Both teams received plaques because the Blues won the the regular-season district title by winning four of five nine-hole district matches and placing second to Covington once.

Craig County placed third in the district tournament with a 453, and Eastern Montgomery (467) finished fourth. Bath County only had three varsity golfers competing, not enough for a team score.

The medalist was Craig’s Noah Moler, firing a 72 on the par-72 course. Covington’s Seth Fertig placed second with an 85, and EM’s Haley Howard finished third with a 91.

Matt Kiely led the Blues, tying Bath County’s Dylan McComb for fourth by shooting a 94, with a 44 on the front nine and a 50 on the back nine. PM’s second scorer was Kaleb Floyd, carding a 100. Bryant Wilhelm posted a 104 for the Blues’ third score, and Jacob Hamilton completed PM’s team scoring with a 108. Also competing for the Blues were Trevor Wright (115) and Colin Hamilton (120).

All teams and individuals playing in the district tournament will compete in the Region C tournament, which will take place at The Homestead’s Old Course in Hot Springs next Thursday, Sept. 28, at 9 a.m., with Bath County playing host. The winning team and top five individuals not on that team will advance to the Group 1A state tournament.
