Lexington Police Celebrate with Hot Pursuit 5K and Concert

     To celebrate the acclaimed 150th anniversary of the local police force, Lexington Police Foundation hosts the Hot Pursuit 5K at 10:30 a.m. SaturdayApril 21, at the Virginia Horse Center.

     Pre-registration for adults and those aged 13-18 is $25, children 12 and under are free with paid adult registrant. On-site registration is $35.  Local university students may participate for a discounted fee of $15.  Pre-registration includes an event t-shirt, lunch, and free entrance to a concert held that evening. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded.

     Following Hot Pursuit, teams from Virginia law enforcement agencies and sheriff departments will compete for a trophy in “Police Challenge Games.”

     A community concert featuring The Cross-Eyed Cats is slated for 6 p.m. after the competitions. This concert, open to the public, is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $5, and 12 and under are free. Race participants receive a complimentary ticket and can purchase additional tickets as needed. 

     Lexington Police Foundation has provided assistance and support to Lexington police through scholarships and tuition assistance for officers, supplemental training, community programming and events, the purchase of new winter coats for officers, and other equipment. Future plans include the purchase of new police bicycles, a live scan fingerprinting system, and fitness equipment for officers, said Lexington Police Foundation Vice Chair Lori Turner.
