Karl "King" Frederick Hehl Jr., 67, died May 17


Karl “King” Frederick Hehl Jr., 67, died peacefully at his home in Warrenton, N.C., on Thursday, May 17, 2018.

He was born in Denver, Colo., to the late Karl Frederick Hehl Sr. and Beatrice Jameson Hehl, and raised in Ivy Hill.

He was a well-respected and loved businessman in Warren County. He and his family owned and operated Southern States in Warrenton, N.C., for many years.

Karl who was affectionately known as “King” by many was a member of the Embro Hunt Club and the Jump Mountain Hunt Club, he was a Mason at the Johnston-Caswell Lodge #10 and was a Shriner. Karl was a member of the Warrenton Rotary Club, the Warrenton Rural Fire Department and past chairman of the ABC Board. He also served on the Agricultural Extension and County Planning Boards.

In 2011, he was awarded by NC State University with the Outstanding Alumnus Award, honoring his achievements and dedication to the Agricultural Institute. Most of all, Karl loved life, spending time with his family and friends.

A Celebration of Karl’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at his home, 204 Church St., Warrenton, N.C.

Karl is survived by his wife, Mary Deaver Hehl; a daughter, Elizabeth Jameson “Jamie” Hehl Williams of Warrenton; two sons, Steven Weldon Harris (Allison) of Sophia and Karl Frederick Hehl III (Chelsey) of Macon; two sisters, Louise Bradley (Buck) and Karla Hehl; three granddogs, Ziggy Princess Williams, Forrest Harris and Rollo Hehl; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Rachel Hehl Dwight, and his beloved lab Belle.

The family asks that any memorial gifts be made to the Johnston Caswell Masonic Lodge #10 P.O. Box 595, Warrenton, NC 27589 to help with building repairs & maintenance as well as helping support the Oxford Orphanage. Arrangements are by Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.
