John Marshall Leighton, 86, of Buena Vista died June 19


John Marshall Leighton, 86, of Buena Vista, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at Havenwood Assisted Living of Lexington from the effects of Parkinson’s disease. 

John was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Buena Vista to the late Terry Alexander Leighton and Lora Etta Whiteside Leighton.  He was preceded in death by brothers Edell, Calvin, Robert and Saylor Leighton and sisters Anna Snook and Frances Henson. 

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Whiteside Leighton; daughter, Donna Leighton of Goodview; son, Brian Leighton (Tracy) of Bedford; and granddaughter, Sarah of Roanoke.

He was a lifelong member of Stone Church of the Brethren, served in the U.S. Navy, and was retired from Burlington Industries.

On Friday, June 22, at 9 a.m., the family will lay John to rest at Green Hill Cemetery. Following the burial, visitation will be at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Stone Church of the Brethren, 2162 Forest Ave., Buena Vista.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Havenwood and Rockbridge Area Hospice for their loving attention to John’s needs and the needs of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Stone Church of the Brethren or to Rockbridge Area Hospice (315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450).

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
