James Osborne Spangler, 92, of Glasgow died Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born Nov. 29, 1924, in Botetourt County a son of the late Manassas Pendleton Spangler and Mary Susan Welch Spangler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Spangler was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and was a faithful member of the Wednesday morning prayer breakfast. James had a strong faith in Christ and didn’t mind sharing his trust in the Lord. James served his country in the United States Marine Corp. as a Sergeant during World War II where he was a member of the rear echelon with the communications group. After 45 years of service James retired from Burlington Industries. He was also a dedicated member of the Glasgow Lifesaving Crew.

Surviving are his wife of fifty 44 years, Joan Eggleston Spangler of Glasgow; one daughter, Roseanna S. Mitchell and husband Calvin of Spout Spring; and one granddaughter, Ashley Claire Mitchell.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 17, at the Glasgow Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Wayne Meredith. Burial will follow at Glasgow Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
