Fire Hydrant Flow Testing And Maintenance To Take Place Next Week

On Monday, March 27, a Public Works crew will begin semiannual testing and inspection of fire hydrants throughout the Lexington City distribution system.  Testing should be complete by the end of the week, but may be delayed by emergencies or weather.  If delays occur the work will be completed the week of 3 April.  Maintenance consists of checking all valves for proper operation and identifying leaks. All work will be performed during normal work hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As a result of this testing and maintenance, residents may experience some discoloration in tap water.  This should be minimal as both testing and maintenance do not involve significant water flows and the time durations are short.  If you do see discoloration or any sediment, run a cold water faucet, preferably in a tub with higher flow, for a short period of time and it should clear up quickly.

The City appreciates in advance community patience and cooperation as we perform this important infrastructure testing and maintenance to assure that hydrants will operate in the event of a fire.
