Donald Eugene Mason of Buena Vista died March 10


The Mason family sadly announces the passing of beloved husband and father Donald “Donnie” Eugene Mason on Sunday, March 10, 2019.

Born on March 24, 1948, to George “Buster” Mason and Muritta “Rene” McDaniel Mason and was raised in Buena Vista. He retired from Advance Auto Parts.

In 1968, during the Vietnam War, he joined the Army where he proudly served his country stationed in Okinawa, Japan, for two years before receiving an honorable discharge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Stephanie O’Flaherty, brothers Marion and Calvin Mason, sisters Louise Humphries and Ruby Mason and nephew Greg Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene Mason; three daughters, Lisa Mason Brown, Denise Mason, and Charity Clark and her husband Kevin Clark; 11 grandchildren, Josh Nuckols and fiancé Cortney Carter, Kristen Nuckols, Kaitlyn Nuckols and fiancé Malyk Smith, Rylan Decker, Stephanie, Andrew and Phillip Gomez, Michael and Callison O’Flaherty and Shawn and Bryan Clark. He also had five great-grandchildren, Macyn Nuckols, Santanna Diggs, Amiyah O’Flaherty, and Joey and Chelsea Valente; his nephew, David “Peanut” Mason; and his great-nephew, Greg Mason Jr.

Donnie was a devoted husband and a loving father. As a grandfather, he was patient and kind. With his cheerful personality and fun sense of humor, he was known for telling the funniest stories. He was a family oriented man with a strong work ethic, passion for motivation and a desire to live each day for ones he loved. He was well-respected, liked within the community and loved by those closest to him. He will he missed by everyone, including his beloved chihuahua, Lucy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 3 p.m. at New Beginnings Mosaic Church, 248 Poplar Hill, Lexington. Donations made be made to the American Lung Association.
