Blues Advance To Regional Softball Semis, Patterson Competes In Regional Tennis Tourney

Monday, May 29 – In postseason action on Monday for Parry McCluer High School, the softball team defeated Chilhowie 2-0 in the Group 1A West Region quarterfinals at Chilhowie, while sophomore Maggie Patterson advanced to the finals of the girls regional singles tennis tournament before falling at Radford University.

In softball, Kelsi Martin pitched a seven-inning shutout for the Fighting Blues (18-4), striking out three, scattering seven hits and walking note. Martin hit a two-run homer in the third, scoring Hannah Pruett. Allison Clark and Makenna Smith each went 2-for-3. PM avoided rallies by the Warriors (16-8) by making double plays in the first and fifth innings.

While the loss ended the season for Chilhowie, the Blues advanced to the regional semifinals Emory & Henry College on Wednesday at 4 p.m., when they will play Holston.

In tennis, Patterson defeated Thomas Walker’s Roxanne Hensley 3-6, 7-6 (8-6 tiebreak), 6-2 in the regional singles semifinals before falling to Radford’s Logan Graham 6-1, 6-2 in the finals.

Patterson, whose record is 11-5, will continue singles play in the Group 1A state semifinals at Radford University on Thursday, June 8, at 9 a.m., with the championship following at noon. Patterson’s opponent will be decided later.
