Beth Ekdahl, 58, of Rockbridge Baths died May 1


Elizabeth “Beth” Anne Overcash Ekdahl, 58, died May 1, 2019, at her home in Rockbridge Baths after a two-year battle with cancer.

Born in Richmond, she spent much of her life in Florida, where she worked with the churches the family attended and spent several summers leading vacation Bible school at Salem Lutheran Church in Orlando. She spent countless hours in the schools of her children helping wherever she was needed.

After a move to Southwest Florida, she began another profession as a guardian ad litem and served the interests of children within the DCF system.

Before leaving Southwest Florida, she spent summers on the road researching her family to finally join the Daughters of the American Revolution. When she moved to Virginia, she joined the Virginia Frontier chapter and served as regent up until her death.

A few months before her cancer diagnosis, she successfully completed an EMT program through Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. She pursued volunteering with the Waynesboro Rescue Squad over a year into chemotherapy treatments. Aside from working with the rescue squad during treatment, she tightened familial bonds with trips to Grand Canyon and Mardi Gras in New Orleans and crossed the country in an RV named Irma.

Beth is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Jessica, Martha and Natalie as well as her son Nils; her father, Bobbie Gene Overcash; her brothers, Bobby Overcash and Geoffrey Overcash; and her sister Susan Overcash-Gregory. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Louise Little Overcash. 

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, at the Bethesda Presbyterian Church and the family will receive friends at the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department after the service.
