Ajene Quillin of Lexington, 71, died Sept. 26

Ajene "Mr. Q or AJ" Quillin of Lexington, 71, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at Avante of Roanoke Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Woodville, Miss., to the late Thomas J. Quillin and Harriet E. Claiborne Quilliln.

Surviving are his wife, Maria E. McLellan Quillin; two sons, Chaka L. Campbell and Melvin H. Ridgenal; three step-children, Muriel L. Sloan, Dina McItosh and George Willborne; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Tomasenia Spurlock, Ann Stamps and Valaery Quillin.

Mr. Quillin worked for many years with the Natural Bridge Learning Center until it closed and then for the Buena Vista school system as a substitute teacher.  He enjoyed many hobbies like writing, reading, researching, motorcycling, building or repairing things, walking his dog Jambo, walking the track at Virginia Military Institute and running marathons.  As an avid sports enthusiast, he tried to attend every event at Parry McCluer and Rockbridge County high schools.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Harrison Funeral Home.
