And The Winner Is …

At the Hunter Hill Exxon station Friday morning, Jennifer Andrus of Raphine accepts a check for $1 million from Mark Merritt, a state lottery official. Andrus bought the winning scratch ticket Monday at the store north of Lexington, but her name was kept secret until Friday. Lottery officials noted that she had played the Lottery’s Maximum Millions game earlier in the day Monday and did not win, but then returned to the store later in the day and bought another ticket from the same game. With the second ticket, she won the top prize, the choice of either $1 million over 25 years or an immediate cash option of $564,000. What does she plan to do with the money? She said she plans to use the money to pay some bills and would save the rest. Additionally, she said she would give a tip to the clerk who sold her the ticket. (Ned Oliver photo)
