Lewis, Blackburn Re-elected

Incumbents were returned to office in a couple of key local races in the Rockbridge area Tuesday.
Walkers Creek Supervisor Buster Lewis was re-elected, winning over Woody Mumma, while long-time Glasgow Mayor Sam Blackburn defeated two challengers, Sarah Funkhouser and Paul Williams.
In the race for the Kerrs Creek School Board seat, Benjamin Swisher won over Terri Bsullak. Swisher will take the seat currently held by Mitchell Shaner, who didn’t seek re-election.
In Glasgow, Monica Dock and Boyd Walker will join Ruby Clark on Town Council. Incumbent Clark was the top vote-getter in the contest for three seats, with Dock and Walker coming in second and third. Roberta Lyle, a former member of Council, missed regaining a seat by just eight votes.
Kerrs Creek Supervisor Rusty Ford was re-elected without opposition, as was South River School Board member Sarah Jane Deacon, though she won as a write-in candidate since there were no names on the ballot in this particular race.
Lewis and Ford can now look forward to four-year terms on the Board of Supervisors. When each was first elected two-years ago, their terms were for just two years so that staggered terms could be implemented.
Constitutional officers re-elected without opposition were Buena Vista Treasurer Landy Boatwright, Commissioner of Revenue Mar Vita Flint, Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Russell and Sheriff Randy Hamilton, and Lexington Treasurer Pat DeLaney and Commissioner of Revenue Karen Roundy.
